Daksha comes from a humble background in a farming community. She has always had trouble with learning, especially reading and writing. In the past, she displayed disruptive behaviour in the classroom, often leading to conflict with her teachers or her classmates.
Daksha exhibited slower learning progress compared to classmates. Teachers observed difficulties with English concepts and reading comprehension. This changed and she started showing interest in studies and more. The link was clear: Daksha had low self-esteem due to learning difficulties, and this contributed to her problems in school.
Daksha’s teachers had noticed that she was particularly struggling with English and reading comprehension. That’s when they called on the Better Learning Programme for help. We assessed Daksha and created a structured learning plan to help improve her English, reading and writing and boost her confidence
At the same time, the specialist teacher encouraged Daksha to take part in peer support and group activities.
Little by little Daksha started achieving small goals, like reading two letter words and some sentences correctly. Then she started to participate in class activities a bit more. Today she puts her hand up to answer questions confidently in class. Occasionally she retreats into her shell, but reassurance helps her to get back on track and she has made good progress.
The specialist teacher was thrilled with Daksha’s transformation and noted some marked improvements: “I personally focused on Daksha by regularly interacting with her and understood her problems. I gave relatable examples during my teaching sessions to make learning interactive and fun. I also applied alternative teaching methods, such as hands-on activities or visual aids, to enhance comprehension.”
